Welcome to the third episode of Smart Art Business, a podcast created to help artists thrive.

If you are reading this, you are most likely an artist that invests a lot of time, energy and resources into creating your artwork.  The question is, how much time, energy and resources are you investing in your art business?  Over the coming months, we will be chatting with artists and industry professionals to bring you ideas and suggestions on how to increase your sales and broaden your audience.

In this episode, we talk fearless creativity with artist and shaman, Kam Ridley.  Kam Ridley is an intuitive body paint artist and fashion photographer. The award-winning Fashion: ISSUE photographer recently moved to New York, NY to be at the epicenters where fashion and social issues collide. Using fashion photography as a vehicle to archive issues affecting our society, Kam creates conversational art with the simple intention of getting people to discuss sometimes uncomfortable topics in order to find common ground. Whether it’s an editorial story for a magazine or live painting and photography showcase at Essence Festival, Kam is a creative presence that has been introduced to many around the globe.

Currently, Kam is showing The Fashion: ISSUE series. This series was created to give Ridley an outlet to express 2 sides of the same coin…the beautiful human experience and the social constructs that tear down and may ultimately destroy humanity. Topics in the series include diversity in the television and film industry, suicide, gender identification and jealousy among others.

After successfully touring the country with The Fashion:ISSUE, Kam noticed an immediate connection to body painting and the human response to non-sexual touch. During body painting sessions, people would enter a calm, meditative state and commented about feeling uplifted..often saying the painting felt more like a Spiritual experience. So Kam created The Fashion:ISSUE Experience. The Experience allows both the artist and the subject to connect on a higher level of consciousness to transform the subject into an immortalized work of art that is photographed and later printed on recycled metal.

Kam is a graduate from Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts and has studied with some of the most notable photographers both in the U.S and Europe.
